The simple pleasures of the Harbor View House of 1807
This
beautiful Federal-style inn was originally built in 1807 as a home for attorney Bohan P.
Field. It was built in an area known as Primrose Hill that rests above Belfast Harbor and
entertains a view of the harbor and Penobscot Bay. The current inn is situated on over
a gently sloping, wooded acre.Harbor View House is a true gem of Federal architecture that has
been lovingly maintained to retain its original design and charm. Front and rear central
hall doors are still accented by their original Federal-style
fanlights. Authentic pumpkin pine floors guide the visitor into the common living and
dining rooms, each complete with fireplace, original woodwork and shutters, and 10-foot
ceilings. These rooms provide relaxing areas in which guests can play games, watch movies,
chat, and relax. Wi-fi access is available for those bringing their own
portable devices. As one guest
said "I can relax more fully if I know everything is OK back at work."
The inn has 6 bedrooms, with two on the first floor. The size of the rooms and the spacious hallways ensure a quiet stay in each of these guest rooms. The first-floor guest rooms, complete with private baths, fireplaces, and built-in bookcases, are at the rear of the first floor and provide a view of Belfast Harbor beyond from their private deck area. The main staircase leads up to the second floor hallway and four more guest rooms, each having private bath and fireplace. Most of these rooms have a view of the harbor as well. Rooms have different sleeping accommodations to better serve the needs of our visitors - twins, queen & double bed configurations are available.
Please feel free to wander around the inn and appreciate the historic details that abound in this lovely historic home. |
